Introduction

Mahindra has launched the 2025 Mahindra Thar facelift in India at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), with everyday comfort features and a tech refresh while keeping the powertrains intact.

What’s new

The big news is usability. A 10.25-inch HD touchscreen, rear AC vents, door-mounted power window switches and a new steering wheel tidy up daily ergonomics in a big way. Outside a body-coloured grille, dual-tone bumpers and a rear camera neatly integrated into the spare wheel hub make it look fresh, along with new shades like Tango Red and Battleship Grey.

Prices and variants

The range starts at Rs 9.99 lakh for the AXT RWD 1.5 diesel and goes up to Rs 16.99 lakh for the LXT 4WD AT 2.2 diesel (ex-showroom). Variant naming has been simplified to AXT and LXT, with the aggressive entry price positioning the Thar strongly in the lifestyle 4×4 space.

Powertrains and drivetrains

Mechanics remain familiar and proven. Engine options are 1.5 mHawk diesel (approx. 117–119 hp/300 Nm), 2.2 mHawk diesel (132 hp/300 Nm) and 2.0 mStallion turbo-petrol (150–152 hp/300–320 Nm). Gearbox choices are 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque-converter automatic, with RWD on select variants and 4WD on higher spec trims.

Cabin highlights

The bigger 10.25-inch screen modernizes the interface and reduces the “reach-and-peck” feel of the older setup. Rear AC vents, Type-C ports, sliding front armrest, A-pillar grab handles and AT dead pedal make the Thar more commuter and road trip friendly.
