Tata’s Most Hyped EV Avinya Faces Major Delay – Launch Now in 2027

Tata’s much-anticipated Avinya EV has been pushed to 2027, following platform production delays tied to JLR’s EMA facility.

If you’ve been eagerly waiting for Tata’s futuristic Avinya EV, there’s some disappointing news. Initially pegged for a 2025 launch, the premium electric SUV has now been pushed to 2027. The delay has less to do with the car itself and more with what’s under it – the platform that’s supposed to bring this vision to life.

What Caused the Delay?

Tata had plans to use Jaguar Land Rover’s EMA architecture for the Avinya through a signed MoU. The platform is critical because it supports advanced EV designs, like a flat floor, improved battery packaging, and next-gen features. However, the EMA-based facility in Tamil Nadu has hit roadblocks, slowing down the project. With no functioning plant, Tata now has to rethink either using a cheaper alternative or sourcing the platform from another partner.

What’s Special About the Avinya?

The Avinya isn’t just another EV. It’s Tata’s first model to ride on the all-new Gen 3 Skateboard platform, a leap ahead of the current Gen 2 Acti.ev used in models like the Harrier EV. This new base promises better space, lower center of gravity, and overall a cleaner, more premium EV experience.

Why Does It Matter?

  • Avinya represents Tata’s move toward high-end global EVs
  • It was supposed to be a flagship for Tata’s EV design and tech vision
  • The Gen 3 platform could define how future Tata EVs are built

Tata showcased the Avinya in concept form back in 2022, and it drew serious attention for its lounge-like interior, minimalist exterior, and promise of over 500km range. But concept to production is never easy, especially when you’re building on brand-new foundations.

Final Word

Delays in car launches are nothing new. But when it’s a model as important as the Avinya, it signals that Tata still has a few challenges to solve before it truly enters the global premium EV arena. For now, those dreaming of owning Tata’s most ambitious EV will have to wait a little longer.
