On India’s 79th Independence Day, Mahindra pulled the covers off something that felt more like a glimpse into the future than just another car launch. Standing in front of those gleaming concept SUVs, I couldn’t help but imagine how our roads would look a few years from now. These Mahindra Vision Cars aren’t just renderings made real, they’re statements about where the brand is headed.
The Future is Here: NU_IQ Platform
At the heart of it all is the new NU_IQ platform. Mahindra says it’s modular, which means it can handle petrol, hybrid and full-electric without breaking a sweat. What struck me most was the mention of a flat floor. I could already picture myself stretching my legs in the backseat, with that sense of space you don’t get in rugged SUVs.
The Four Concepts
Each concept felt like it had a different personality. The Vision.T was like the Thar, boxy, rugged but sharper, like it had just stepped out of the future. The Vision.S was sleeker, more urban, the kind of SUV that would slip through city traffic yet pack that Scorpio attitude. The Vision.X? It looked like Mahindra’s answer to the Creta crowd, bold lines, athletic stance, something you’d spot and know it wasn’t ordinary. And then there was the Vision.SXT, a pickup that screamed adventure with its muscular body and dual spare tyres hanging at the back. I could already smell the dust it was meant to conquer.
A Design Language That Speaks Emotion
Pratap Bose, Mahindra’s design chief, called it Heartcore, and honestly, it felt right. The designs weren’t just aggressive, they had balance, a bit of old-school toughness mixed with futuristic smoothness. It’s that rare combination that makes you want to reach out, touch the metal and see if it’s real.
Production starts in 2027 but seeing these Mahindra Vision Cars now makes the wait feel longer than ever. For SUV enthusiasts like me, this was less a launch and more an invitation to dream.
