Royal Enfield, India’s leader in the 350cc cruiser segment, and Chinese manufacturer CFMoto have joined forces to develop a hybrid 250cc motorcycle called “V.” When complete it will use an engine supplied by CFMoto that meets BS6 Phase 2 and CAFE norms; anticipated launch is 2026 at an approximate price range between Rs1.25-1.35 lakh (ex-showroom). This new bike will slot below Royal Enfield’s Hunter 350 cruiser model.
Technical Collaboration with CFMoto
Royal Enfield has begun negotiations with CFMoto to license its 250cc engine technology. This engine will meet India’s stringent BS6 Phase 2 emission norms as well as CAFE standards set to take effect this year. Designed as a compact yet fuel-efficient unit, this unit supports mild hybrid and full hybrid configurations to support Royal Enfield’s long-term sustainability goals.
Key Features and Positioning
Royal Enfield’s 250cc hybrid motorcycle will boast their signature classic styling, as well as in-house development for chassis, suspension and overall design. Modern amenities such as ABS, LED lighting and digital console will be offered. Aimed at entry-premium buyers and commuter riders looking to upgrade from 100-150cc commuter motorcycles.
Strategic Vision and Localisation
Royal Enfield plans to achieve 85-90% localization for its 250cc platform, in keeping with India’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative. This will support competitive pricing while supporting Royal Enfield’s goal of doubling annual production to 2 million units by 2030. In addition, Royal Enfield believes this bike will play a pivotal role in transitioning toward hybrid and electric vehicles.
