Jaguar Land Rover has officially announced price reductions ranging from ₹4.5 lakh to ₹30.4 lakh across its Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery portfolio in India, following the GST rate cut. The company says the new prices are effective immediately and the full benefit of GST rationalisation is being passed on to customers in India. Why it matters: this is one of the biggest price cuts in the luxury SUV space this year.
Why Land Rover prices dropped
GST Council has approved a new structure which reduces effective taxes on larger luxury vehicles and OEMs are realigning prices. JLR India Managing Director Rajan Amba called it a “welcome move” that will give the segment “much needed push”.
How much cheaper now?
JLR says benefits range from ₹4.5 lakh to ₹30.4 lakh and model wise cuts have been communicated to dealers. Although the government’s new GST rates officially take effect on September 22, the company has instructed its dealers to implement the new prices with immediate effect, passing on the full benefits proactively. So the prices are being realigned across the network proactively.
Model wise reductions
- The flagship Range Rover sees the most significant reductions, with price cuts of up to ₹30.4 lakh on specific variants.
- Defender: reductions between ₹7 lakh and ₹18.6 lakh depending on variant.
- Discovery: drops from ₹4.5 lakh to ₹9.9 lakh across trims.
These cuts will reposition Land Rover’s flagship SUVs against German rivals ahead of the festive season.
GST rate context
The new GST structure reduces the total tax (GST plus cess) on luxury cars and SUVs to a slab of around 40%, a significant reduction from the previous rates which were as high as 50% in some cases. Effective date communicated by government sources is September 22, 2025, which is when the auto sector will be aligned to the new structure.

Rivals also cutting prices
Competitors like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo have also announced price reductions in response to GST 2.0. Volvo ICE models will be cheaper by up to ₹6.9 lakh from September 22 and German brands have signalled big cuts across key SUVs as well.
Buyer outlook
The most significant savings are on the top-end Range Rover flagship variants. Dealerships are now updating their ex-showroom and on-road prices to reflect the new tax structure as the industry aligns with the September 22 effective date.
