BMW has launched the 5 Series LWB (Long Wheelbase) in India at ₹72.90 lakh (ex-showroom) on July 24, 2024, making India the first right-hand-drive market to get the LWB version.
The new BMW 5 Series LWB is for those who want rear seat comfort without compromising on driving dynamics. With a 3,105 mm wheelbase, the sedan has more legroom than the standard variant, catering to the Indian market’s love for chauffeur-driven luxury cars.
Engine and Performance
The powertain here is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol unit with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The powerplant produces 258 hp at 4,500 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 1,600 rpm and is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels.
0-100 kmph in 6.5 seconds and top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph. The mild-hybrid setup improves fuel efficiency and provides seamless power delivery. BMW claims a fuel economy of 15.7 kmpl.

Market Competition
The 5 Series LWB has some established players to contend with in the luxury sedan space. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB is the current leader in this segment with its superior rear seat comfort and traditional luxury. Other competitors are the Audi A6, Volvo S90 and the Lexus ES each with their own strengths in design, technology and powertrain options.
BMW’s strategy is to offer a balanced package of sporty driving dynamics and rear seat luxury, differentiating itself from competitors who are comfort-first.

The BMW 5 Series LWB is currently on offer in a 530Li M Sport variant. The car is available across all BMW dealerships in the country, prices vary significantly based on location due to state taxes and registration charges.
