What’s New in Electric SUVs?
ndia’s electric SUV game is shifting into high gear. Tata has already launched the Harrier EV, while Mahindra is teasing its XUV.e9, coming later this year. Both SUVs promise modern tech, great range and muscle – but which one fits your style (and budget) better?
Let’s break it down.
Design and Launch Timeline
- Tata Harrier EV in showrooms June 2025, bookings open in July.
- Mahindra XUV.e9 under wraps, launch between July and December 2025.
So if you want to go electric ASAP, Tata gets a head start.
Power and Performance: Who’s the Boss?
When it comes to raw power, Tata Harrier EV plays the performance card better – especially in its AWD (QWD) version.
- Harrier EV : Packs serious punch in its top-spec AWD trim, pushing out up to 390 bhp and 504 Nm of torque, with a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 6.3 seconds when Boost Mode is engaged.
- XUV.e9: Up to 282 bhp, 380 Nm torque, 0-100 in 6.7 sec
If quick off the mark and AWD is your thing, Tata wins.
Battery and Range: Long Drives Covered
Both SUVs have multiple battery options and impressive numbers on paper.
- XUV.e9: 59 kWh (542 km) and 79 kWh (up to 656 km)
- Tata Harrier EV : offers two battery choices – 65 kWh and 75 kWh. The larger pack delivers a certified range of up to 627 km, while the smaller one is rated for around 538 km. In real-world driving, the top-end variant is expected to return between 480 and 505 km on a full charge.
Charging speed:
- XUV.e9: 20–80% in 20 minutes (180 kW fast charger)
- Harrier EV: Charges from 20% to 80% in around 25 minutes using a 120 kW DC charger. In a quick 15-minute top-up, it can add up to 250 km of driving range, making it handy for urgent getaways.
Tech and Features: Luxury Meets Practicality
Here’s where things get fancy. Both have a lot of features, but in different ways.
XUV.e9 Highlights:
- Wide-screen setup with three displays – driver cluster, infotainment, and passenger screen
- ADAS, HUD, frunk, ventilated seats
- 7 airbags, Dolby Atmos speakers, premium cabin vibes
Harrier EV Highlights:
- 14.53-inch Samsung Neo QLED touchscreen
- 540° surround view, summon mode, bi-directional charging

If you like futuristic tech, Tata’s Neo QLED and off-road tools are the way to go. But Mahindra’s cockpit is clean and premium too.
