Honda E-VO Enters Chinese Market

Honda is finally out in the electric motorcycle game with the introduction of the E-VO in China. Through a joint effort with Wuyang-Honda, this escooter is a big move for the Japanese brand when it comes to electric two-wheelers.

The E-VO is the retro one of the bunch in the sense that it features cafe racer-inspired design, but also in that it gets the modern tech too. Honda clearly has this model slated for the Chinese market, the largest motorcycle market on the planet.

Battery Configurations and Specs

Honda offers E-VO in two battery options. The base version has a 4.1kWh dual battery, while the higher spec has a 6.2kWh triple battery.

It is available with the smaller battery which boasts a claimed range of 120km and weighs 143kg. While the higher spec model will be offered with a range of 170km and a dry weight of 156kg. Each makes an identical 15.8kW (21 horsepower) from its electric motor.

Maximum speed is 120 km/h and charging this electric scooter will take you 1-1.5 hours for the 4.1kWh model and 1.5-2.5 hours for the 6.2kWh version depending on your efforts with the charger.

Design and Chassis

Honda built the E-VO around a forged aluminum frame to reduce weight and increase strength. The bike has 16-inch front and 14-inch rear wheels with semi-slick tires for better road grip.

Dual channel ABS is standard. Seat height is 765mm, accessible for riders of all heights while maintaining the bike’s sporty proportions.

Tech and Smart Features

The E-VO stands out with its tech integration, especially its dashcam system. The 4.1kWh version has a front facing camera, while the 6.2kWh version has a rear facing camera, making it one of the first electric motorcycles in the world to have integrated dashcams.

Riders interact with the bike through two 7-inch TFT screens. The main screen is for instrument cluster, while the secondary screen is for navigation, music control, tire pressure monitoring and battery status. Three riding modes – Eco, Normal and Sport – allow you to customize power delivery and regenerative braking.

Pricing and Availability

Honda has entered the E-VO at a sharp price riding on the wave of the electric motorcycle movement in China. The 4.1kWh variant is priced at CNY 30,000 (around Rs 3.56 lakh) and the 6.2kWh model will set you back by CNY 37,000 (approximately Rs 4.38 lakh).

Currently available only in China, there are no plans for international launch. Honda is setting up an electric vehicle manufacturing facility in India which will be operational by 2028 and may produce electric motorcycles for the Indian market.
