The electric motorcycle segment in India is about to get a big boost with KTM entering the EV space. The E-Duke prototype is on display at KTM’s Motohall in Mattighofen, Austria, marking the Austrian brand’s first foray into electric mobility.
KTM E-Duke Specs and Performance
The E-Duke prototype comes with a 5.5 kWh battery pack that powers a 10 kW electric motor. The setup is nominal power output, prioritizing riding engagement over efficiency. Real world range is expected to be under 100 km, which is KTM’s philosophy of performance focused engineering.
The compact battery pack should make the E-Duke lighter than the Duke 390 which weighs 168 kg. This weight advantage should translate into better handling and more agility in urban conditions.
Design and Engineering
The E-Duke prototype looks aggressive and has electric specific bits. It shares many components with the Duke 390 including the trellis frame, aluminum swingarm, offset rear shock absorber and braking hardware.
The electric motor is in the traditional engine position and power delivery is through a conventional chain drive system. Integrated charging setup eliminates the need for external charging cables like the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter.

Visible features on the prototype include fully adjustable front suspension, compact color TFT display and disc brakes at both ends. Design language is sharp and aggressive with tank extensions and headlamp design borrowed from bigger Duke models.
India Manufacturing and Launch Timeline
Industry reports suggest KTM will use Bajaj Auto’s manufacturing setup for E-Duke. The Indian setup will cater to both domestic and global demand, same as the existing KTM motorcycle production model.
Launch timeline is not confirmed but the prototype is out in the open so development has progressed since the project was announced during KTM’s 2022 investor meet.
Market Positioning and Competition
The E-Duke will be entering a small but growing electric motorcycle segment in India. With sub-100km range and performance focused approach, the motorcycle is targeting urban commuters looking for premium electric mobility solutions and not long distance touring.
Bajaj partnership could give competitive pricing advantage to the E-Duke making it more accessible to a larger customer base than the imported electric motorcycles available in the market.
