Tesla Model 3 India Launch Expected Soon: What We Know So Far

The Model 3 is getting closer to its India launch. No official word yet but multiple developments suggest Tesla is planning to enter Indian market by late 2025 or 2026.

What’s Happening So Far

Tesla has started homologation process for Model 3 and Model Y, a crucial step before any EV can be sold in India. Showroom spaces have been booked in Mumbai and Delhi and hiring for Indian operations has already begun.

The company is also scouting for office and assembly space in Pune and Bengaluru, hinting at a broader India strategy beyond just imports.

Expected Variants and Price

Model 3 will come as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) with expected variants being RWD, Long Range AWD and Performance.

  • Price for the imported models will be between ₹70 to ₹90 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • But if Tesla benefits from the new EV policy which allows reduced import duty with local investment, on-road price could go down to ₹35-40 lakh, though that’s speculative at this stage.

Launch Window

Most reports are pointing to 2026 launch but some still mention late 2025.

Challenges Ahead

Tesla’s premium pricing might limit Model 3’s reach in India’s price sensitive market. Competition from established EV brands, lack of charging infrastructure and India specific road conditions might also be challenges.

While the final word on launch date and pricing is still awaited, Tesla’s latest moves suggest it’s finally serious about India. For EV enthusiasts, the wait could soon be over.
