VinFast, a car company from Vietnam, will introduce its luxury electric SUV, the VF7, in India by September 2025. Bookings will start in June.

VinFast VF7 EV Coming to India! Launch in Sept, Booking Starts Soon

If you’ve been eyeing the electric SUV space but want something that’s not your typical German or Korean offering, the VinFast VF7 might just be what you’re looking for. This Vietnamese beauty is coming to India and honestly, it’s got some pretty cool things going for it that make it worth your attention.

Design and Looks

The VF7 has that modern, premium SUV vibe with a coupe-like stance that makes it stand out in a parking lot. It’s got those sleek LED light bars running across the front and rear that give it a futuristic look, plus flush door handles and smooth body panels that scream premium. The Italian designers at Torino Design had a hand in this, and you can tell they knew what they were doing. It’s not trying too hard to be flashy, but it definitely has that “I’m different” appeal that catches your eye.

Engine and Performance

VinFast keeps things simple with two options, and both are pretty good for what most people need:

The Eco variant comes with a single electric motor that delivers 201 HP power and 310 Nm torque. It’s front-wheel drive, which is fine for city driving and those weekend highway trips. You’re looking at around 450 km of range, which is more than enough for most people’s daily needs.

If you want more thrills, the Plus variant offers dual motors with all-wheel drive, 349 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque – powerful enough to excite. Even with this extra punch it still manages 431 km of range!

Both versions get a 75.3 kWh battery pack, which is generous enough that you won’t be constantly worrying about finding charging stations.

Ride and Comfort

One thing VinFast seems to have got right is the interior space. You get proper legroom both front and rear, which is great for Indian families who actually use all five seats regularly. The dual-tone brown and black theme looks classy without being too flashy, and those vegan leather seats feel premium to the touch.

The panoramic glass roof makes the cabin feel airy and open, while that massive 15-inch touchscreen handles most of your tech needs. There’s wireless charging for your phone, heated and ventilated front seats for comfort, and rear AC vents so your passengers don’t complain about the heat. The ambient lighting is a nice touch that makes evening drives more pleasant.

Features and Technology

VF7 doesn’t go overboard with features but what it has is useful stuff. That head up display keeps important info right in your line of sight and the infotainment system seems responsive enough from what we’ve seen. The cool part is over the air updates which means your car can actually get better over time without you having to visit the service center.

On the safety front you get all the basics like multiple airbags and ABS plus some smart features:

  • Highway Assist for relaxed cruising
  • Lane Centering Assist to keep you on track
  • Adaptive Cruise Control for stop and go traffic
  • Emergency Lane Keep Assist as a backup

It’s Level 2 ADAS which is pretty good for this price range and should make your daily commute less stressful.

Launch Timeline and Availability

Here’s the exciting part: VinFast is opening bookings in June 2025 and the actual launch will happen around the festive season in September. They’re not just testing the waters either – they’re investing $2 billion in India and setting up a proper manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.

The plant will start by assembling cars using parts from Vietnam but it’s designed to scale up if Indians actually like what VinFast is offering. They’re planning to start with 50,000 units per year and can go up to 150,000 if demand picks up.

Price and Variants

Now for the big question – what’s it going to cost? Different sources are saying different things but expect it to land somewhere between Rs 30-50 lakh ex-showroom. That puts it right in the premium EV space alongside cars like Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.

Here’s something interesting: VinFast might offer a battery subscription option where you buy the car without the battery and pay a monthly fee instead. This could bring down that initial price shock quite a bit making it more accessible for people who want to try electric but don’t want to commit to the full price upfront.

Final Verdict

VF7 looks like a solid package for someone who wants to go electric but doesn’t want the same car everyone else is driving. It’s got decent range for Indian conditions, enough tech to keep you happy and a design that actually stands out. The real test will be build quality and after sales service since VinFast is completely new to India.

If you’re in the market for a premium electric SUV and want something different from the usual German or Korean options then VF7 is worth waiting for. Just remember being an early adopter of a new brand always comes with some uncertainty about long term support and resale value.

But hey if VinFast gets it right you’ll be driving something that turns heads and delivers a great electric driving experience. September can’t come soon enough!
