The luxury SUV segment in India got a new addition with the launch of the 2025 Volvo XC90 hybrid SUV. Priced at ₹1.25 crore (on-road, Delhi/Kolkata), the Swedish automaker’s flagship model brings plug-in hybrid technology to Indian roads.
Performance and Powertrain
The 2025 XC90 T8 AWD Ultra has a powertrain that combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged engine with electric motors. This setup produces 455 horsepower and 709 Nm of torque and can go from 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.
The plug-in hybrid system offers up to 32 miles of all-electric range, so you can complete your daily commutes with zero tailpipe emissions. The total range is over 450 miles between fill-ups, so it’s practical for long drives.
Design and Features
The exterior gets a contemporary update with a criss-cross grille housing Volvo’s logo and 21-inch five-spoke black diamond-cut wheels. The interior has a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen display with higher resolution and over-the-air software updates.

Premium features include Nappa leather upholstery, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, four USB-C ports and Volvo’s signature crystal Orrefors gearshift. The seven-seater configuration has 680 liters of boot space, expandable to over 1,800 liters with rear seats folded.

Safety and Technology
Safety is at the core of Volvo’s philosophy. The XC90 has Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving system, City Safety collision avoidance and Blind Spot Information System with steering assistance. The SUV has a 97 percent adult occupant protection rating from Euro NCAP.
Advanced features include 360-degree surround view camera, adaptive LED headlights and an air purification system that filters up to 95 percent of PM 2.5 particles. The optional Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system with 19 speakers is a bonus.
Market Position
The XC90 is priced against the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE in the luxury SUV space in India. The hybrid technology gives fuel efficiency benefits while retaining the performance of a premium SUV.
Volvo CEO Jim Rowan said the hybrid flagship has been one of their top selling model globally, comfort, space, luxury and hybrid efficiency that customers want.
