Xiaomi SU7 Ranks Worst in China's Q1 EV Quality Report

Xiaomi SU7 receives highest penalty points in large BEV sedan category according to China's state-run quality assessment platform.

Xiaomi SU7 earned last place in China’s 2025 Q1 automobile quality ranking for large BEV sedans, receiving 239 penalty points – 56 more than average and signalling an increased risk of potential defects and an elevated complaint-to-sales ratio.

China’s Official Quality Assessment System

China Automobile Quality Network, an independent platform operated by China Market Supervision Administration, serves as a benchmark to assess quality. This platform collects reports from car owners on vehicle faults or defects and converts these reports into penalty points that reflect quality levels; higher points indicate lower quality.

Xiaomi SU7 managed to sell over 104,000 units between January and April 2025 despite performing poorly in terms of quality ranking.

Competitors’ Performance

The large BEV sedans category comprises 29 vehicles from Chinese manufacturers. Of those 29 cars, GAC Hyptec GT took home top honors with 149 points. Next in line were Voyah Passion with 152 points followed by Changan Huawei CATL’s Avatr 12 in third with 153.

Other notable contenders in this category are the Europe-bound Nio ET7 and its flagship Nio ET9, both scoring 183 points on our ranking system. Zeekr 001, Lotus Emeya, BYD Han and Denza Z9 GT finished lower down the list.

Mounting Challenges of Xiaomi Auto Display

Xiaomi Auto faces many obstacles in meeting this quality assessment, and Lei Jun has identified April as its most trying month since establishment of the company. Furthermore, their SU7 vehicle was involved in a fatal crash on March 29. This quality evaluation presents yet another test for Xiaomi Auto as it looks for ways to maintain high standards of safety during mass production and distribution.
