The Yamaha YZF-R7 is finally heading to India, and I couldn’t be more excited. Slated for launch by December 2025, this middleweight supersport promises to be the sweet spot between daily usability and pure riding thrill.
At its core is the same 689cc CP2 engine that powers the MT-07. If you’ve ridden it before, you know how punchy and responsive it feels. With around 73.4 PS of power and 67 Nm of torque, the R7 doesn’t need to be revved to the moon to feel fast. It’s got usable grunt right from the low end, perfect for Indian roads.
The 6-speed gearbox is paired with an assist and slipper clutch for smoother shifts, and an optional quick-shifter could be offered. It’s the kind of setup that makes spirited riding feel effortless.
Visually, the YZF-R7 screams supersport. The sharp fairings, LED lights, and aggressive face borrow heavily from the R1. It’s not just for show—it’s aerodynamic, too. Inside, the digital display might even get a TFT upgrade with smartphone connectivity for India.

You also get adjustable KYB suspension at both ends, dual front disc brakes with radial calipers, and dual-channel ABS. It’s built for corners but stays comfortable enough for the city.
Expected to be priced around ₹10 lakh (ex-showroom), the YZF-R7 will go up against bikes like the Honda CBR650R and Kawasaki Ninja 650. But with its balanced performance and everyday rideability, it might just carve out its own space.
If you’ve been looking for a bike that thrills without overwhelming, the YZF-R7 could be your perfect first supersport. I know I’m ready to swing a leg over. Are you?
